What is the difference between a farm, fine arts & craft, and a food vendor?

Broadly, a farm vendor is a vendor who sells their own farm-grown or farm-sourced produce or product at the market. To be considered a farm vendor, 80% of a farm vendor’s total sales must come from items they have grown.

A fine arts & craft vendor is a person who creates, designs, and sells their own unique, handmade products.

A food vendor sells food items they have produced in accordance with the Panhandle Health Department rules and regulations.

How do I become a FARM vendor?

A farm vendor must be actively tending or producing products on land that he/she rents, owns, or otherwise actively controls for agricultural purposes as determined by the Board and be located within a 100-mile radius of Farmin Park in Sandpoint, excluding Canada. Buying products for resale, or selling products not produced on your rented or owned land is prohibited. Wild, native edibles that are foraged or wild-crafted (such as huckleberries and some mushrooms) may be excepted.

While most farm vendors and their farm-grown products are typically readily accepted, the Market may require a farm visit/inspection to confirm site details; potential farm vendors may be also asked to provide additional details to verify some farm-sourced products.

What kind of products can I bring as a craft vendor?

There are a wide variety of products we allow at the Farmers’ Market at Sandpoint. Every product sold MUST be made by the artist selling it. We do not allow the resale of any item: consignment of products, items created from kits, and recycled items are not allowed. If you have questions about the scope of the items you hope to bring to Market, we encourage you to reach out to our market manager at farmersmarketatsandpoint@gmail.com before paying the application fee and applying.

I’m a returning craft vendor with NEW products, do I need to have those items juried?

YES! If the new items are not within the same category you will need to note it on your application, submit photos and descriptions of all new items, and wait for notification of approval from the jury before you bring the item to market, i.e, if you are a returning jeweler who wants to add hand knit scarves to your booth, you will need to submit your scarves for approval, with descriptions and photos.

How do I become a FOOD vendor?

Applicants seeking to sell cottage foods, i.e, non-temperature controlled foods, at market must fill out a cottage food risk assessment form.

Please visit https://panhandlehealthdistrict.org/food-safety/ for more in-depth information on cottage food regulations and guidelines.

All other food items must secure all necessary licenses prior to making their first appearance or sale at the market. Vendors will need to contact Panhandle Health Department directly for relevant licenses.

Yes! If the new items are not within the same category you will need to note it on your application and submit samples and wait on the results of the jury before you bring that item to market, i.e. if you sell breakfast burritos at the market and decide you want to add cookies to sell as well, you will need to note this on your application and submit samples for jurying/approval BEFORE you bring them to market.

I’m a farmer and I want to bring a new item (example: homemade muffins) to sell at the market, do I need to have them juried?

That depends! As a farmer you may bring prepared foods and arts or crafts if one or more of the top three ingredients or materials is grown by the vendor.

All food items, including those brought by farm vendors, require registration with Panhandle Health Department and must follow all guidelines associated with the sales of  homemade food.
